An archive of all my blog posts from 2010, when I documented my process of designing a couture collection off garments to show at London Fashion Week. It documents each step of the way and introduces design ideas and techniques that I was taught at university.

COLLECTION OVERVIEW IMAGES (SENT TO VFS & FE)

A quick video explaining the almost finished result of colouring my collection in illustrator; colours calibrated from my original fabric samples found in London. It's also a nice intro to the benefits of fashion illustration in Adobe Illustrator.

WELCOME BACK & A FRESH NEW START

It’s been a while since my last post, due to my failure to get into LFW through Fashion East & Vauxhall Fashion Scout. I had a pretty tough week or two with some real thinking, but I'm back now and determined as ever, this is just the beginning! Details what's to come...

BAD NEWS I’M AFRAID!

I got some bad news today... Fashion East, the company I applied about LFW 2012 sent me an e-mail rejecting my application. Damn it!

IACF ANTIQUES FAIR – ARDINGLY

I manage to bike it down to the IACF antique fair at Ardingly in South East England to source lingerie lace and jet beading in preparation for constructing two of the finished outfits. What an amazing show.

TEASER VID

Unfortunately, I can’t really show you the construction process of the collection... it wouldn't be a surprise then... but this is a nice little teaser video about one of the garments in my collection. It's not toiled like the other garments, instead, it's built from...

HONEY FINDS THE CAMCORDER

Honey Malaolu (my intern) finds my camcorder and speaks her mind.... (just a bit of fun) Check out her work and previous collections by clicking the button below.

GARMENT CONSTRUCTION + FEATURE

Now we’ve finished coloring up the collection, we are ready to start construction (how exciting!), unfortunately, I can’t show you too much construction work, but stay tuned for features and more.

COLOURING THE COLLECTION – AN EXAMPLE

A quick video explaining the almost finished result of colouring my collection in illustrator; colours calibrated from my original fabric samples found in London. It's also a nice intro to the benefits of fashion illustration in Adobe Illustrator.

COLOURING THE COLLECTION

I start to add color to my illustrations to build a cohesive collection of garments, using the color palette I created in the previous video. This video does actually show you how to add color using Illustrator but simply explains the reasons and result. Tutorials on...

COLOUR CALIBRATION

Understand the next step in the color development of my collection, I explain how we start to build a color palette from our material swatches, and how to calibrate these colors in illustrator, so when I start to color the collection the printouts and designs will be...

FINAL FABRIC SOURCING

With my toiling stages finished I start to redevelop my collections color palette, using new materials found around London, also there is information on cataloging my finds for easy reference when it comes to buying each outfits material and trims. Loads more heavy...

TOILING – FINALLY!!

I have finally got my act together and posted the video about toiling: This video contains three out of the 15 toiles for this collection. I filmed this quite some time ago and so it might not be the most coherent example of I could have created but time is against...

IT’S BEEN A WHILE!

It's been a hell of a long time since I last posted, so this is simply a brief hello and description of what's to come over the next couple of days.

DESIGN PROCESS

An introduction to MY design process, and all the things I need to start designing, if you get bored easily then this possibly isn't one to watch as it's just me talking nonsense (possibly valuable nonsense!). This video explains Part 2 of "The Design Process."...

WALL ART CONT

This is part 2 of the little chapter in this blog called Wall Art. In this video, I show you how to enlarge and trace the image back on to the wall using Photoshop.Once again this has nothing to do with the collection - It's just a bit of fun!

WALL ART

This has absolutely nothing to do with my project, but with my finances quickly diminishing, it's time to find something constructive to do in my spare time, that doesn't cost the earth! So welcome to my attempt at large scale graphic art of the Art nouveau period....

TOOLS OF THE TRADE

After a long chat with my friend regarding dress sense and fashion etiquette, I come to the conclusion that I should probably start to dress like a designer and not a dirty little skater! So I ask Oscar Alexander - MUA & Stylist, to give me a makeover and help me find...

TOOLS OF THE TRADE INTRO

A brief introduction to my next post: TOOLS OF THE TRADE. I explain a little bit about the reasoning for my makeover including a few excuses about the random nature of the video itself. Hopefully, this intro puts the next in...

REALITY CHECK

After my very recent makeover, I am starting to socialize and network with the fashion industry and have started to realize how much work, time and effort goes into it. Finding the relevant events to attend and getting myself invited, with a limited friend base is...

THE DARK SIDE – VERBAL DIAHOREA ON A GRAND SCALE

A pretty messed up post, talking about all aspects of the project, me, my life and more. Hence the title! I do tend to ramble on and flit from one subject to another. It's certainly a long one, and I tried to make it as interesting as possible, but that kind of failed...

DAY 2 IN THE NEW STUDIO

What you could call a happy post... Finally, the studio has been moved back to my home, allowing me to seriously knock out some work, for a change! I haven't posted much about what I am doing at the moment, but there will be a whole series of work coming up about the...

A real rant, what a crap couple of months and all I have to blame is myself and my own will power... Bit of a redundant video but maybe it's relevant in some depressing way?

OUT & ABOUT IN LONDON – Findings

Check out what we bought throughout the day, including an explanation of how these material swatches will be developed into relevant ideas to develop my project further.

OUT & ABOUT IN LONDON

Out and about around London: doing material research and generally skating and acting a fool. Please be aware this video is quite shaky might make you feel a bit sick. Unfortunately, we couldn't film in a lot of the material shops so this is a cut-down version. Also,...
