ABOUT:
As part of my couture collection I need to produce a series of Art Nouveau/ Art Deco inspired headdresses to really accessorise the garments; I had a bash at it rather than employing a milliner and spending huge sums of money and the resulting headdresses look fabulous, so I figured I would create a tutorial for it. Hope you enjoy. This is part 1 of a series.

Looking over my previous vids, I realised I had missed out a post…
I never actually went through any of the items I bought at the IACF event. So here’s a somewhat late overview and quick example (teaser) of how all the bits I bought are applied in the collection.
Enjoy!

Not the best post in the world! but a serious problem has presented itself!

 RACHEL GOLD – FASHION STYIST

I’ m Loving her work, would love to work wth this lady…

Check out her biography below

I can’t actually remember the precise moment years ago that I knew I had found my true calling.

One thing I do know is that everytime I get a job I am filled with excitement and anticipation.

I love to style celebrities, commercials, jewellery and music video’s.

I am good at finding locations and matching teams I write for a few magazines, so it’s great fun to be able write about what I love at the same time as styling the images.

Ever since I was a small girl I used to dress anything or anyone that moved, including the family dog! I used to style the rooms and change the furniture around constantly, much to every-one’s annoyance. So I suppose it’s no surprise that I have ended up as a stylist.

Styling is my passion. I have worked in New York, LA, Paris, Switzerland, and many other European Countries.

I have compiled some of my favourite images for my portfolio and hope you like looking at them as much as I have liked creating them.

I am inspired everyday by beautiful things around me and Halston, Azzadine Alaia, Chanel and so many more.

Please feel free to get in touch.

Rach

This is the start of the design process… but to be honest this part is all down to you guys and what you want to design. However, this Video does give you an example and some information about fashion design using pre made templates. There is some info about balance marks and making your illustrations look realistic. More to come!

The second part of a whole series of tutorials on fashion illustration in Adobe Illustrator: In this tutorial I explain how to create a fashion template of a woman or model, using photo-shoots taken from the web or fashion magazines. I show you how to create stylised head shots and combine them with interesting poses to create a beautiful finished template, that you can save, share and print hundreds of times, allowing you to design quickly and effortlessly.

Unfortunately i can’t really show you the construction process of the collection… it wouldn’t be a surprise then… but this is a nice little teaser video about one of the garments in my collection, not toiled, but built from scratch. The video also goes on to explain my next video post: researching jet beading and other bits for this particular dress and the rest of the collection. Enjoy!

With my toiling stages finished I start to redevelop my collections colour palette, using new materials found around London, also there is information on cataloguing my finds for easy reference when it comes to buying each outfits material and trims.

Loads more heavy stuff to think about on the way!

I have finally got my act together and posted the video about toiling: This video contains three out of the 15 toiles for this collection. I filmed this quite some time ago and so it might not be the most coherent example of  i could have created but time is against me. This video briefly describes the process and reason for toiling in cheap fabric.

It’s been a hell of a long time since i last posted, so this is simply a brief hello and description of what’s to come over the next couple of days.

Samantha Cole…..

What can I say… apart from O.M.G!! This lady is seriously talented her work is absolute perfection. The cut and silhouette of these garments are phenomenal… Conceptual design at its best – so simple but so amazingly powerful.

Damn you Miss Cole :)

The following is a Snippet from TRENDLAND:

Samantha Cole London is an Award winning Contemporary British designer. She received Best Womenswear Designer at NY Fashion Week for her ss09 collection. Cole draws influence from modern day trends (Geometric Architecture…) without completely relying on it for the direction and purpose of her collections. Definitely a designer to watch!

WOW…. What an amazingly atmospheric start to this music vid! totally awesome. She knows exactly what she’s doing!

I’d love to be involved in set production!  think of the awesome corsetry you could do and get away with!

ABOUT:
This very quick tutorial will show you how to scan a scaled pattern from a book and produce a full size (scaled up) pattern. Which can then printed off or transferred into Illustrator to trace and build a digital pattern.

This tutorial was requested by:  Manuela Biocca (a user of RALPHPINK.COM)

I stumbled across this guy, due to his comment on my “digital pattern cutting tutorial.” He suggested an excellent plugin for Ai that allows you to measure the length of a curved line – Very handy for armholes etc. So a huge thank you for that!

But looking at his site/ portfolio, he has done some really amazing work for some really cool designers, including the high street! So i thought i would turn the link into a media article. So check out his site! some awesome work!

My aim is making fashion designer’s dreams come true…

Many designers have a lot of stunning visions on their sketchbooks. But if their technical skills are not good enough here i am to help them.

Path-mode provides pattern cutting expertise and advice to fashion designers, enabling them to put their drawings into reality. Path-mode is focused on one-to-one collaborations and delivers service from making patterns towards the finished garment. We do “one off” collections and can handle “small runs”. Path mode is pleased to offer bespoke tailoring service. We are fully concerned about high-quality and perfectly made garments. In the very near future Path-mode will present the offer of clothes designing on commission and for special events.

Path-mode will be providing its own unique style of clothes according to requirements and needs of its clients.

A pretty messed up post, talking about all aspects of the project, me, my life and more. Hence the title! I do tend to ramble on and flit from one subject to another. It’s certainly a long one, and I tried to make it as interesting as possible, but that kind of failed too. I’m still not sure if it was a good idea to post it! I wonder what my parents will think.

Anyway, I hope it’s mildly relevant!

Article posted by the Guardian:

Tavi Gevinson Tavi-thenewgirlintown.blogspot.com

The place to start. It follows the typical format: straight-up photos of the blogger, scans of fashion shoots and vintage magazines, all captioned with chirpy commentary. Fashion has fallen for 13-year-old Gevinson in a big way; the little Chicagoan can also fill you in on what it’s like to model for the Rodarte label or grace the cover of Pop magazine. Some “proper” style journalists have expressed disbelief that a child has produced such informed fashion reports. As if you need a doctorate to be enthusiastic about clothes.
